    Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Optimizing Treatment Outcomes

Achieving an optimal outcome in the complex dental patient is one of the most demanding tasks a dentist must undertake. These patients often require substantial dental treatment to correct specific esthetic and functional discrepancies resulting from disease, missing teeth, trauma, alveolar bone defects, failed treatment, and/or various other esthetic concerns. Therefore, planning treatment is difficult and requires a creative, yet collaborative, coordination of care by the interdisciplinary team to satisfy the objectives of both the patient and the team. This lecture will illustrate the importance of interdisciplinary interaction between the restorative dentist, orthodontist, and periodontist. It is designed to provide a systematic approach to diagnosing and treatment planning multiple dental dilemmas that are encountered in practice every day, while providing the tools and techniques needed to complete treatment.

Dr. Janakievski, will present this information from the perspective of a periodontist, while emphasizing the importance of communication and collaboration when treating these challenging patients.
